Characteristics needed:
- Relish working with children
- Have an understanding of the needs and learning levels of each child and are equipped to follow the National Standards for family day care and EYLF to plan and provide play-based experiences for the children in your care.
- Live in a suitable home that will provide environments appropriate for the children with indoor and outdoor play areas provided.
- Flexible in your ability to provide care for families when needed to.
- Receptive and respectful to diversity, as well as cultural or religious practices, disabilities and additional needs.
- Basic level of spoken and written English to communicate with families, co-ordination unit, and emergency services as well as help guide children’s learning.
- Proper knowledge of nutrition, health, safety and hygiene.
- An understanding of the importance of professional developmental and continuous improvement of effective child care practices.
Qualifications:
- Current First Aid certificate.
- Current Anaphylaxis training.
- Current Asthma management.
- Police Certificate less than 6 months old.

- HLTAID004.
- HLTAID001 update.
- Educators need to complete minimum of certificate 3 in children services or are currently studying for this.
Mandatory Requirements Prior to Commencement:
- Candidate must be 18 years of age or over.
- Police Checks certificate for the applicant and any other residents in the home 18 years of age and over.
- Home Safety Assessment.
- Gain an Australian Business Number (ABN).
- Public Liability Insurance (Care providers are encouraged to take up insurance with Family Day Care Australia. For renters, permission from landlord to operate family day care from the home.
- Working with children check for applicant and any other resident 18 years of age and over (they can apply for a volunteer check, free of cost).
- Medical Clearance from your doctor.
If you would like your child care business to be successful and effective, it is important to contemplate the physical environment including children’s toys for all levels of development, appropriate resources and equipment for indoor and outdoor play areas, being an active member of the your program and experiences as well as meeting all needs of each child in your care. Also make sure your program is stimulating and interesting for each child’s curious mind.
